Miriam Parker and Naomi Ben-Shahar Performance

Thursday, March 21
5pm

Co-hosted with the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program

In conjunction with their current two-person exhibition Cosmologies, Movements, and Proclamations for Peace, artists Miriam Parker and Naomi Ben-Shahar will present a collaborative performance in the gallery on Thursday, March 21st at 5pm. Bringing together elements of improvisational dance, sound, video and weaving, the performance moves between various materials and actions—the loom is activated as an instrument for sound, movements by weaver and dancer hover in and out of synchronicity, a canvas painting surface is an enclosure, a mountain and a soundscape. Through this performance, the artists expand upon the collages and videos presented in the gallery, exploring how traditions of dance and craft can create new modes of interconnectedness across people and disciplines; and how this moment in time necessitates an embrace of collaboration, mutual aid and radical empathy in order for humans to achieve a peaceful coexistence with each other, and with the earth. The performance will be followed by a short conversation and Q&A with the artists.
